I know I usually don't do long posts without pictures but I feel this is worth sharing because of the high frustration level. And I just need to get it off my chest.
So we had the missionaries over for dinner two nights in a row. The first night I had class all day so decided to make something simple; taco soup. Easy. Ran to the store... got a few ingredients... got home... and of course no black beans. When did the never ending supply of canned black beans finally run out?? No big deal. I'll call a neighbor. Got a couple cans and we are good to go. Elders get to our house and we find out that one of them is allergic to almonds, peas and beans. Yes BEANS! Great. I scramble to find something for him to eat. Poor guy got stuck with condensed chicken noodle soup.
Oh it gets better...
I was making some brownies for dessert and the timer beeped while we were eating so I got them out of the oven. They looked great. Continue eating and I smell something kind of like smores with a weird twist. Or burning brownies! I left the burner on and happened to place the brownie pan on the hot burner. They were scorched and glued to the pan. GROSS!
Not a good night to say the least. I was determined to make up for it the next night...
I have the whole day off so I am able to prepare better and get everything I need for Chicken Cordon Bleu. I pound the meat, roll the ham and cheese and make the sauce. I even made a yummy little vegetable dish and rolls. The chicken has been in the oven for more than an hour and I was confident they were done... apparently not. We started eating and there was bright pink meat on everyones plates. I was mortified!! I could not beleive it. I put them back in the oven for a few minutes while we ate the rolls and veggies but they were still not even close to being done. At least they got a yummy (no bake of course) cheesecake for dessert. I'm pretty sure the missionaries will never want to come back.
And THAT my friends, is why we don't invite people over for dinner!
It's not that we don't like you or we are too busy. I just stress out waaayy too much and then my kitchen explodes. Feel free to come over, just don't expect any food.

Boy can I relate. You need to rememaber that you are blessed just the same no matter how it turns out!
i wish i could come over. i love raw meat and burnt brownies :) at least the lord knows you were trying! and i think that's more important than what was actually on the plates.
still funny though..
Haha. Funny, yet sad. I'm sorry!
Oh Lyndee that is so sad!! I would have been a wreck. I always get really stressed anytime we have people over.
Oh that is hilarious! Gives you and the missionaries some great stories. :)
Lyndee! I love you! Those sound like honest mistakes. And they are also hilarious!!! Why the heck did you sign up to feed the missionaries 2 nights in a row? I made a goal to have the missionaries over at least ONCE a month. I hope to see you sometime this week before Sunday! Then if I (by some miracle) remember my question I will ask you. I love your honesty! lol!
Good luck at school! :)
