Yesterday started out as a regular day but ended up being the worst day I think I've ever had. I was holding Toree and we were coming down the stairs when I slipped and down we went. It happened pretty fast so I don't remember exactly how we landed. Toree started crying immediately of course but I figured she was just really scared. I laid her down to check her over and she wasn't moving her left leg. I knew something wasn't right so I kind of panicked a little and called Ryan. He didn't answer so I left a pretty hysterical message. I then started to call the pediatrician but realized they would just send me to the ER. I had to decide what ER to go to so I got out the phone book. Yeah the phone book, does anyone even use them anymore? I thumbed through it and got frustrated trying to think what to look up so I just packed up some stuff and hoped I remembered how to get to the hospital next to the pediatricians office. Nope. I took two wrong turns while poor Toree was whimpering in pain all buckled into her car seat. Luckily the GPS was in our car and found the hospital right away. We got there and they took us to a room. We got a couple xrays done and yep, broken. Right above the knee on her femur bone. I have never been more scared. She was such a trooper though while they splinted it and gave her a little medicine. They gave her a cute teddy bear but all she wanted was her blanket and thumb. Thank goodness I remembered the blanket!
(Sorry these pictures are bad, we only had phones with us.)
I finally got a hold of Ryan and he came over during one of his labs. I'm so glad he came but I feel bad he had to miss class. A while later they decided she needed to go to the Children's Hospital downtown to see the orthopod. We took an ambulance and got there around 4. She did so great on the ride over.
At the Children's Hospital we met the orthopod on call who we found out graduated from the same med school as Ryan and lived in the same townhouses that we are in. The ER doctor also graduated there just a couple years later. Small world. Anyway he looked at her xrays and this is the lucky part, her bones were perfectly aligned and didn't need to be adjusted at all. He just splinted it again and took a couple more xrays to be sure and we were done.
We got home around 8 and she was so hungry from not being able to eat all day just in case they had to do surgery. She ate, took some medicine and was out. She slept pretty well surprisingly. It was a rough day to say the least. I love this little girl so much, it was hard to see her in so much pain. I'm glad that she didn't have to have surgery or stay overnight. Now we just wait and let her heal. She should be back to normal in about 4 weeks. Poor girl will be immobile and it's going to be so hard for her. She loves to play so hopefully I will be able to entertain her these next few weeks.

oh my gosh. i sorta got teary eyed during this because it's so sad for her! at least you are a nurse and you knew what to do (who wouldn't be frantic!) and although it's sad, at least she still looks adorable with the cast.
and thanks for the shout out for matt's Bday... he thanks you!
Holy cow, Lyndee! What a scary day! I'm glad that Toree didn't have to have surgery! I'll be thinking of you for the next few weeks with a immobile little one to entertain.
Lyndee- I don't even know what to say.
Oh my goodness....tears rolled down my face while I read this. How sad. What a good girl though--she really is a trooper. BUT SO ARE HER PARENTS! We've had a few trips to the ER and many scares of different sorts but nothing broken. Good job!
Hey did Jordan tell you he canceled his interview for Kansas? We got into UIC and we just got the reject letter from U of U so UIC here we come! :) Wish we were closer to you guys. We miss you.
i totally got choked-up too!! awe... poor little thing! Good thinking to take her in though... i always worry that i wont know what to do with elle if she is sick or something happens! Let me know if i can help with ANYthing!!!

So sorry to hear about Toree. It is so scary. I'll bet you had a few bruises yourself! I slipped down the stairs holding a baby once. I couldn't get up for a long time!
ugg i hate trips to the ER. i am glad she is okay and no surgery!
So sad for her and YOU! My sister has 4 girls and 2 of them have broken their femurs between ages 1-3. Glad she didn't have to have surgery. Good luck! :)
Holy smokes! Poor girl! I'm glad you're both okay though & that she'll be back to normal in a few weeks.
I just heard about this!!! That is AWFUL! Poor Toree, I can't even imagine.
I hope things are going alright back there. Just blink your kitchen lights on and off if you need help. And then call me because I probably won't see you do that. :)
(my word verification is choot, like "shoot! Toree broke her leg!" I swear these word verification things sometimes are parallel with the post's theme.) Ok you can laugh at me now. :)
That is so scary! I am so glad she's okay. It's good that you were a nurse and didn't panic. i would have freaked out. I am always scared I am going to fall with Carter--it's hard to walk down stairs because you can't see your feet!
Oh Lyndee! I'm so happy you and Toree are ok. I hope she has a quick recovery!
Lyndee, I'm so sorry. Let us know how you're doing with recovery. She's such a beautiful little girl.
That is so scary! I would have been freaking out. Im glad she's ok and back to moving around.
